Jamie and Pete have well and truly won the award for being our first visitors. They hit the ground within two weeks of us landing in Tokyo!
It was such a pleasure to see familiar faces, and to experience some new and exciting things with them. First and foremost being my very first bowl of ramen (Afuri ramen, which is still in my mind the very best). See below infographic for a little more about what goes into this most delicious bowl of goodness.
We also visited the very large shinto shrine of Meiji-Jingu, a 700,000 m2 area of land in central Tokyo dedicated to the divine souls of Emperor Meiji and his consort Empress Shoken. The shrine is spectacular, but what is really special is the surrounding grounds and the walls of wine and sake (empty, but dedicated the old Emperor). The large trees make for some awesome shade, which provides a welcome respite from the summer heat.
