Christmas is well and truly in full swing here in Tokyo. We are yet to put up our tree, but already the city is full of the Christmas time cheer. For the Japanese, as soon as Halloween is over, it is Christmas time. As we discovered during our first Christmas here in Japan in 2015.
While it is cold here in Tokyo, there are so many light shows to see and because it gets dark at 4.30 there is plenty of time to take the kids out too. So grab your hot chocolate in a thermos and get out there!
Here are a few of the websites I’ve used to plan our adventures this year:
- Best Living Japan’s Christmas Market Guide
- The Japan Guide’s run down of winter illuminations
- Savvy Tokyo’s more curated (read, slightly shorter) list of light displays!
And of course, here is a bonus video of one of the Christmas light displays from last year. It tells the not-so classic Christmas good vs evil story.
And, because you can never have enough of the Bento Busu at Christmas time. It gives you some insight into the madness of a Japanese Christmas 🙂
