Kodomono Kuni. Even on the busiest of days, this is still a magical day trip away from Tokyo (if you have children, or like intense concentrations of other peoples children).
Easily accessible by both car and train (recommend train on the public holiday weekends), it is an enourmous wonderland consisting of many play grounds – each with a different style, connected by a little road train or bike path.
We have been twice already and have still only covered 50 per cent of the available area. So, study the map and plan out your day!
One of the times we visited was on the Japanese Children’s Day long weekend. Even amongst all the chaos, we still had a great time! And as a bonus, the splash park area here opens up well before those in Tokyo proper, and stays open longer too!
Naturally, after such days out you end up with exhausted little children who just can’t stay awake. Even after ice creams and while riding trains (a favourite past time of Jake’s).
