Red bean face man [and the inexplicable love of a nation]

After having received some spam at hoikuen, it was Jake’s dream to visit the Anpanman museum in Yokohama. After waiting almost a year (with the poster stuck on his bedside table) we made all his dreams come true and made a day trip south with some friends for his 4th birthday! While the Anpanman Children’s Museum is definitely aimed at 1-3 year olds, Jake had a ball meeting his favourite character! Just keep quite – he still doesn’t know there was a TV show with him in it!

For everything you could possibly want to know about Anpanman – take a look at this deep dive from the Japan Times!

The highlight of the day was the Disney-style live show – where all the main characters come out and do a few song and dance routines for their adoring fans!

And somewhat miraculously – we all walked away with only a helium Kokin-chan (an small blue germ with an antenna?!) and many Japan-is-really-unique memories!
